A mother and her two daughters have been killed in Melandah, police say

A mother and her two daughters have been killed after a Nor’wester storm toppled three trees onto their house in Jamalpur’s Melandah.

The incident occurred around 4am on Monday in the Upazila’s Purbadagi area, according to Obaidur Rahman, chief of Melandah Police Station.

The dead have been identified as Khuki Begum, a local resident, and her two daughters Fatema Akhter, 45, and Farida Akhter, 37.

Khuki’s son Akal Mondul said that, like every day, his mother and sisters had gone to bed. Around 4am, the storm toppled three trees onto the house, crushing them.

Around 7am, locals attempted to recover the bodies. Fire Service officials went to the scene and recovered the bodies when the incident was reported. A pall of mourning has descended on the area since the incident.

Police official Obaidur said that police personnel are at the scene.
