Bahraini authorities have arrested six expatriates, including a Bangladeshi national, for allegedly sharing pro-Iranian posts and videos on social media amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The Bangladeshi man has been identified as Mohammad Israfil Mir.
The other five individuals taken into custody are Pakistani citizens.
The arrests were reported on Monday by the state-run Bahrain News Agency and local media outlets, citing the interior ministry.
The operation was carried out following an investigation by the country’s General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security.
According to the ministry, the suspects used social media platforms to express sympathy and support for Iran through "misleading" videos and posts.
Officials also alleged that the individuals had filmed scenes of attacks at several locations and circulated the footage online.
Such actions, they said, were considered a threat to national security and an attempt to spread confusion among the public.
Six Asian nationals were subsequently identified in connection with the activities.
The interior ministry said that necessary legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrestees, and their cases have been referred to the public prosecution.
Since the conflict involving Iran began spreading to neighbouring countries, Bahraini authorities have intensified surveillance to prevent the dissemination of provocative or inflammatory information online.
Officials have issued a stern warning to both citizens and expatriate residents to remain cautious, advising against the unauthorised publication or sharing of videos, images, or information related to the conflict and national security.
