70-year-old woman dies of dengue in Faridpur, 20 admitted in 24 hours

A woman has died after contracting dengue in Faridpur.

Another 20 people with dengue symptoms have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital in the past 24 hours.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mahmudul Hasan said Nurun Nahar Begum, 70, died while undergoing treatment around 8:30pm on Sept 5.

The deceased was a resident of Sutur Kanda village in Kaichail Union of Nagarkanda Upazila.

She had been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Sept 4 after contracting dengue fever.

According to data from the Faridpur Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 20 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in Faridpur in the past 24 hours. A total of 52 patients are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals across the district.

So far, 309 dengue patients have received treatment at hospitals in the district. Of them, 254 have recovered and been discharged, while two have died.

Urging everyone to stay alert to prevent dengue, Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said: “Stagnant water around homes must be removed quickly, and mosquito breeding grounds must be destroyed.”

He also advised people to use mosquito nets during the daytime or take other measures to protect themselves from mosquitoes.

Health department officials said it is important to seek medical advice promptly without neglecting dengue symptoms. In case of fever, patients should drink plenty of water and other fluids and undergo necessary tests and treatment as advised by a doctor.

District Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam said different awareness campaigns are being conducted at educational institutions across the district to raise awareness about dengue prevention.

The Faridpur DGHS, local administration and municipalities have further intensified coordinated efforts to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
