A police constable has been injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon while trying to intervene in a clash between two groups in Dhaka’s Adabor.
The incident occurred around midnight on Monday. During the unrest, police say their vehicle was also vandalised.
Constable Al Amin serves as a driver at Adabor Police Station.
He had taken officers to the scene in a police pick-up vehicle and was standing near it when he came under attack.
He suffered injuries to his hands and other parts of the body and was later admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon Division Police Ibn Mizan said officers were dispatched to the area after a report of violence came through the 999 emergency helpline.
He said, “Al Amin was near the vehicle when members of one group attacked him and fled. He was struck in the hand and taken to hospital.”
“We are now trying to identify who they are and which group they belong to,” he added.
