A money exchange trader was killed when a bus hit his motorcycle in Dhaka’s Malibagh on Tuesday afternoon. Around the same time, a tailor lost his life after being hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road in Elephant Road.

The victim in Malibagh was identified as Palash Molla, around 36, who ran a business named Binimoy Money Exchange in Motijheel.

He was on his way home for Iftar when a Victor Classic Paribahan bus struck his motorcycle in Malibagh Chowdhurypara around 5pm.

In a separate incident, Abdul Mannan, around 61, was killed while crossing the road in front of the Suvastu Arcade ICT Bhaban in Elephant Road around 5:30pm.

He owned Pentagon Tailors at BS Bhaban in the area.

Mannan had just left his shop to buy food for Iftar when a speeding motorcycle hit him, causing him to fall and suffer critical injuries.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, said both bodies were kept at the hospital morgue.

Their families have arrived, and police have been informed, he said.

Syed Zulfiqar, who brought Palash to the hospital, said: “Around 5pm, he was riding his motorcycle through Malibagh Chowdhurypara when a Victor Classic Paribahan bus hit him. He fell and was seriously injured. People took him to a nearby community hospital before transferring him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 6:40pm.”

Palash’s nephew Md Rezwan and other family members rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news.

They confirmed that he had left his business in Motijheel and was heading home for Iftar when the accident occurred.

Palash was from Kalia Upazila in Narail and lived with his wife and two children in Dhaks’s South Banasree.

Mohammad Habib, a fellow businessman who brought Mannan to the hospital, said they ran shops next to each other.

“Mannan had just stepped out to buy food for Iftar when a speeding motorcycle hit him. He was critically injured and fell onto the road. He was taken to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead,” he said.

The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries and received primary treatment.

Mannan was from Gaibandha Sadar and lived with his family in Jigatola’s Tannery Mor area in Dhaka.
