The BNP government has removed another secretary and withdrawn five deputy commissioners (DCs) within two weeks of taking office.
In an order issued on Sunday, Local Government Division Secretary Md Rezaul Maksud Jahedi was relieved of his current duties and attached to the public administration ministry.
The government also withdrew the DCs of Gazipur, Panchagarh, Kushtia, Netrokona and Chapainawabganj and placed them under the public administration ministry.
They are Mohammad Alam Hossain of Gazipur, Kazi Md Saimuzzaman of Panchagarh, Md Iqbal Hossain of Kushtia, Md Saifur Rahman of Netrokona and Md Shahadat Hossain Masud of Chapainawabganj.
This is the first time DCs appointed during the interim government have been pulled from field administration.
The BNP government led by Tarique Rahman was sworn in on Feb 17.
Within a week, on Feb 23, three secretaries were removed from their posts and attached to the public administration ministry.
They were Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Rehana Parveen, Prime Minister’s Office Secretary Saifullah Panna and Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Md Kamal Uddin.
On the same day, the contracts of nine secretaries serving on a contractual basis were terminated.
After the fall of the Awami League government, the interim administration removed senior secretary of the public administration ministry Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury on Aug 28, 2024, and appointed former additional secretary Md Mokhlesur Rahman to the post.
