The government has appointed Md Fazlul Haque, former president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), as administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
The commerce ministry issued a gazette notification on Jul 26, though the matter became public on Sunday.
Fazlul has already assumed his responsibilities.
He told bdnews24.com his primary task was to hold a fair election within 120 days and hand over power to elected representatives.
"My main goal is to fulfil the expectation of the business community -- to hold an election so that businesspeople can be represented through the FBCCI," he said.
Managing director of Plummy Fashions, Fazlul served as BKMEA president from 2004 to 2010 and as a board member of the International Apparel Federation (IAF).
Following the 2024 July Uprising, the interim government had appointed bureaucrats to run the FBCCI and select new leadership, sidelining those with close ties to the Awami League.
The post had been vacant since Jun 27 after the previous administrator was relieved.
The commerce ministry said the appointment was made to maintain continuity of the FBCCI's operations and promote industry and trade.
