Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris has paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin in the UK.
The meeting took place on Saturday morning [local time] at a London hotel, says a media statement.
The president's Private Secretary Md Didarul Alam said Idris enquired about Shahabuddin's physical condition during the meeting and wished him a speedy recovery.
Idris also recalled the important contribution of Bangladesh's peacekeeping forces in Sudan and wished for the country’s continued progress and prosperity.
"The Sudanese prime minister commended the president for his leadership with patience and prudence during the recent critical times in Bangladesh," the statement reads.
In his response, the president recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Sudan and wished peace, welfare, and prosperity to the people of the African nation.
He thanked the Sudanese leader for his sincerity and good wishes, expressing hope that bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Sudan would further strengthen in the future.
President Shahabuddin, who is in the UK for medical treatment, had a heart blockage detected and treated with angioplasty and stent placement on Tuesday.
Since then, Bangabhaban has said the president's physical condition is stable and satisfactory.
The president is under close medical observation at the hospital. He has sought prayers from the country's people for his recovery.
Earlier, in October 2023, he underwent open-heart surgery at the National University Hospital in Singapore.
He had since been receiving follow-up cardiac care at the Royal Papworth Hospital.
However, after the political change in Bangladesh in August 2024, he was unable to return for follow-up treatment for 26 months. He travelled to London on May 9 for the delayed medical check-up.
He is expected to return to Bangladesh on May 18 after completing his treatment.
