Measles: 6 more children die, 138 new cases confirmed

80 people have now died of confirmed measles cases since Mar 15, while 401 have died of symptoms consistent with the disease

Six children have died with measles and related symptoms in a 24-hour count.

Three of the children were confirmed to have measles while the other three showed symptoms consistent with the disease.

In addition, 138 new cases of measles have been confirmed by laboratory testing over the period.

In its regular bulletin on Wednesday, the Directorate General of Health Services said 80 people had died of confirmed measles cases across the country since Mar 15. In addition, 401 others have died with measles-like symptoms.

The Dhaka Division has seen the most deaths from measles-like symptoms with 159. Second is the Rajshahi Division with 78.

DGHS says that 1,270 people went to hospitals with measles symptoms. Of them, 1,145 have been admitted.

Dhaka saw the most hospitalisations in the 24-hour period with 455. Rangpur saw the least with 13.

So far, Bangladesh has recorded 8,067 confirmed cases and 57,856 suspected cases of measles.
