A Dhaka court has sent a man to jail after rejecting his bail plea in a case over the alleged rape of a 17-year-old mentally disabled girl in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibuzzaman passed the order on Sunday following a hearing.
Hatirjheel Police Station’s general registration officer Md Bhulu Mia said the case’s investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Abdul Jalil, sought Nurul Islam’s detention in jail.
According to the case statement, the girl’s biological mother died when she was an infant, after which she was raised by Nurul’s wife.
The complaint alleges that on the night of Jul 3, Nurul raped her in Hatirjheel’s Peyarbagh area. The girl later told her foster mother about the incident.
Her mother filed the case with Hatirjheel Police on Jul 8. Police arrested Nurul in the Wireless area of Hatirjheel around 7:30pm on Saturday.
