Lightning strike kills two sisters, man in Cumilla

The incident takes place in Bhabanipur village, Homna UNO says

Three people have died in a lightning strike in Cumilla’s Homna Upazila.

The incident took place in Bhabanipur village around 3pm on Sunday, said Upazila administrator (UNO) Ksemalika Chakma.

The dead are sisters Zakia and Momtaz, both identified with single names, and Rashed Mia.

Local resident Abul Kashem said the victims were waiting at Bhabanipur Ghat on the Titas River to travel to Jhagra Char.

At that time, a lightning strike killed the two women on the spot.

Rashed, who was critically injured, was taken to the Homna Upazila Health Complex but died on the way.

Homna Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jiban Biswas said, “We went to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Details will be provided later.”
