National Citizen Party (NCP) Joint Convenor Monira Sharmin has challenged in the High Court the Election Commission (EC) cancelling her candidacy for a reserved women’s seat in parliament.

This move follows the EC’s rejection of her appeal after her nomination was revoked on Apr 23.

Sharmin confirmed filing a writ petition to bdnews24.com on Thursday, adding that her case is likely to be heard on Sunday.

Senior Supreme Court lawyers Ahsanul Karim and Mohammad Hossain will represent her during the hearing.

Earlier, on Apr 23, the returning officer annulled her nomination papers, citing her ineligibility to stand for election due to not having completed three years since her resignation from a government job.

Despite submitting an appeal to the EC on Apr 26, her request was rejected.

According to her affidavit, Sharmin joined the state-run Bangladesh Agricultural Bank as an officer on Nov 11, 2023. She resigned in December 2025.
