Police are set to manage traffic flow in Dhaka on Sunday as political and cultural rallies will take place at three major locations across the city.

In a public notice on Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said large crowds are expected near Shahbagh, Central Shaheed Minar, and Suhrawardy Udyan.

As a result, vehicle movement, especially through Shahbagh Crossing, will not be possible.

The DMP has urged residents to follow designated diversions and use alternative routes to ease traffic congestion.

The day’s events include a “Student Rally” organised by the BNP’s student faction Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal at Shahbagh from noon to 6pm, marking the anniversary of the July Uprising.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) will host a gathering at the Shaheed Minar from 3pm, demanding the July Proclamation and National Charter. Cultural group Saimum Shilpigosthi is also holding a “July Jagoron” festival at Suhrawardy Udyan daily until Aug 4.

Police anticipate a large public turnout across these venues.

The DMP noted that along with these events, both the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exams are scheduled for the same day.

The traffic restrictions are being implemented to manage the additional pressure on the roads, it said.
