Two people have died from burns suffered in a fire sparked by an explosion at a cylinder sales warehouse in Chattogram's Chandanaish.

Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at Dhaka's National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, said two patients, Md Yusuf and Idris, had passed away while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Yusuf died at 9:45pm on Saturday. The 32-year-old had burns on 57 percent of his body. Idris died at 7:35am on Sunday. He had burns on 60 percent of his body. Both of their respiratory tracts were also burnt."

At least 10 people suffered burns in the explosion on Thursday. Among them, Mahbubur Rahman, 45, suffered burns on 50 percent of his body, Md Yusuf, 32, on 67 percent, Md Idris, 27, on 60 percent, and Riyaz, 20, on 40 percent. All of them had their airways damaged. They were transferred to the national burn institute in critical condition.

Six other burn victims were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Dr S Khaled of the unit told bdnews24.com on Thursday that those six were also not out of danger. Khaled said that while they were not in critical condition, their airways had been damaged in the explosion.

They were later transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Friday night.

Doctors at the institute said that among them, Aqib, 12, had 33 percent of his body burnt, Sourav, 25, had 16 percent, Kafil Uddin, 25, had 45 percent, Harun, 20, had 50 percent, Saleh, 33, had 35 percent, and Liton, 30, had 20 percent of his body burnt.

The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning at the Mahbub Rahman Traders store in the Bailtoli Yunus Market area, according to the Fire Service.

A fire broke out at the site after the explosion, leaving several people injured, authorities said.

Locals said that the fire started while gas cylinders were being unloaded from a truck in the morning, triggering the explosion. The flames then spread throughout the warehouse, causing cylinders to explode and fly off in different directions.
