Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has shared his willingness to step down from the top legal officer rank of the state to contest in the general elections.
On Wednesday, he told the media he had sought the nomination already.
“I’m still holding the post of attorney general. I’ll step down to contest in the election.”
He said he would resign “in due time”.
Earlier on Nov 5, the attorney general had signalled his intent to run in the elections. He shared that he wanted to run from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa) seat with the Paddy Sheaf symbol.
Asaduzzaman was enrolled in the bar council in 1995, and the following year got the opportunity to work as a lawyer in the High Court Division. He was the junior of eminent lawyer Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed. He was enrolled as a lawyer in the Appellate Division in 2005.
Following the political changeover, Supreme Court lawyer Md Asaduzzaman was appointed as the state’s chief law officer on Aug 8, 2024. He is also the BNP’s Central Executive Committee’s human rights secretary and an advisor to Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Asaduzzaman, a native of Baraipara village in Shailkupa was born in January 1971. He joined the law department of Dhaka University in 1989; from there he completed his LLB and LLM degrees.
