Man to be hanged for rape, murder of 5-year-old girl in Noakhali

Police recovered the half-decomposed body of the child from a septic tank in 2022

A Noakhali court has sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl named Asma Akter in Chatkhil Upazila.

Farzana Akter, judge of the Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, delivered the verdict on Monday.

Asma was a native of Megha village in Badalkot Union. The convict Shahadat, aged 26, hailed from the same village.

Shahadat was present in court while the verdict was announced. The court also fined him Tk 100,000.
