12 burnt in ‘gas blast’ at Narayanganj power plant

At least 12 people have suffered burns after a gas leak sparked an explosion in the canteen of the Jera Meghnaghat Power Limited power plant in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon.

The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon. The victims were rushed to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.

Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the institute, confirmed the incident and said the burn victims had arrived at the hospital around 2pm.

Their names and identities have yet to be confirmed.
