The digital fuel distribution app “Fuel Pass” has been expanded to include private cars.
In a notice, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division said private cars bearing number plates in the “Ka”, “Kha” and “Ga” registration series would be able to register with Fuel Pass from Sunday in the initial phase.
The added that private cars in other series will also be able to register in phases.
"Fuel will soon be provided to private cars, as well as motorcycles, at all filling stations in Dhaka through Fuel Pass," it said
The Energy Division has requested everyone to download the Fuel Pass app or register directly from the designated website.
Android users can download the app from the Google Play Store. iPhone or iOS users have been asked to register for Fuel Pass from the website.
The government launched the Fuel Pass system with the aim of bringing order to the sale of fuel oil, increasing surveillance, and making distribution more transparent.
The system, developed at the initiative of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, generates a separate QR code is generated for registered users. Filling stations have been told to scan that code and provide fuel as per the amount allocated.
The service was launched on a trial basis in the first phase at the Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and the Sonar Bangla Filling Station in Asadgate, both in Dhaka. At that time, only “Ha” and “La” series motorcycles were allowed to register.
Then, on Apr 18, the pilot programme was expanded to include 18 more petrol pumps in Dhaka. At the same time, the Energy Division announced that motorcycles registered in several districts and metropolitan areas outside Dhaka would be brought under this system.
On Apr 20, the ministry announced that fuel pass registration would be launched in 19 more districts. The list was Gazipur, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Jashore, Barguna, Bhola, Jhalakathi, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Dinajpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram.
The Energy Division says manual fuel sales can lead to long queues, traffic jams and situations like the same person or vehicle getting fuel multiple times. If a Fuel Pass system is introduced, the entire distribution process will have digital records and can be monitored centrally on an instantaneous basis.
To get a digital fuel pass, the user has to register online. For registration, the vehicle registration number has to be verified and the chassis number, engine number, national identity card number and the year of manufacture of the vehicle have to be submitted.
