Amid a continued reshuffle in the administration's top brass, the government has promoted two senior officials to the rank of secretary.
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury has been tasked with the Ministry of Textiles and Jute while Department of Government Transports Additional Secretary Md Khairul Kabir Menon was transferred to the National Academy for Planning and Development (NAPD), two notifications said on Wednesday.
Since assuming office on Feb 17, the BNP government has been transferring and promoting many officials during the administrative reshuffle.
It has cancelled the contractual appointments of some secretaries and removed them from their duties.
Many officials have also been sent into retirement upon completing 25 years of service.
Sharf Uddin will take up the role of Abdun Naser Khan, who was transferred secretary from the textiles and jute ministry on Jun 9.
NADP Director General Muhammad Rafiqul Islam has been made an officer on special duty (OSD). Menon will supervise the Academy.
OSDs are typically considered punitive postings, with officials usually left without substantive responsibilities in the government’s policymaking or implementation processes.
