7 remanded over ex-BCL leader Shamim attack

A Dhaka court has ordered five days police custody for the seven persons arrested over the attack on former student leader AKM Enamul Haque Shamim.

Recording officer of the Court Police Mahitul Islam said that the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman rejected their bail pleas.

Those arrested over the shooting incident are Md Monir Hossain, Md Harun, Md Mehedi Hasan, Nazrul Islam Jewel, Nurey Alam Siddique, Rana Hawlader and Nazimul Haque Mitthu.

The Detective Police arrested Siddique, Hawlader and Mitthu from Dhaka on Tuesday night while the others were arrested from different parts of the country the previous day by the Rapid Action Battalion.

A member of Awami League’s central committee and former president of its student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League, Shamim was attacked at Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Jun 19.

The motorcycle borne miscreants fired at him several times.

He was rushed to the Bangladesh Medical College and Hospital with bullet wounds on his left hand. Later, he was shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
