Police have recovered the dismembered body of a woman from a trolley bag found under a bridge along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur Sadar Upazila.
The body was recovered from the Bhabanipur area of the Upazila on Friday afternoon, said Joydebpur Police Station chief Al Mamun.
The woman's identity could not be immediately verified, but police believe she may have been between 30 to 35 years of age.
Police official Al Mamun said that in the afternoon, locals saw a trolley bag abandoned in the pond under the bridge and informed the police station. Police went to the spot, opened the bag, and found the dismembered body of a woman inside.
After preparing an initial Surathal report, the body was sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for a postmortem, he said.
Al Mamun said that law enforcers are investigating how the incident happened and how the body was brought to the location.
They are also taking necessary steps to identify the deceased, he said.
The police official said that legal action is under way over the incident.
