Former Jamalpur-1 member of parliament Nur Mohammed has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He was arrested from a house in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Saturday evening, said DB chief Additional Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.
The former MP is accused in several cases relating to the 2024 July Uprising, he said.
The cases are being scrutinised, and the former lawmaker will be taken to court on Sunday, Shafiqul said.
He added that Noor Mohammed, who was elected to the Jamalpur-1 seat in the January 2024 polls, has been brought to the DB offices for questioning.
He said, “The former MP claimed that the house from which he was arrested is his own.”
In a statement on Saturday night, DB police said Noor Mohammed is accused in a case filed in the Jamalpur district under the Explosive Substances Act and is also a suspect in a case filed in connection with a protest and a improvised explosive detonation that took place in the Mohakhali Bus Stand area of the capital on Jun 18, 2026.
Nur Mohammed has served as the president of Bakshiganj Upazila Awami League in Jamalpur for a long time. He was also the treasurer of the district’s Awami League unit.
