After a month of fasting, Muslim devotees have gathered at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka for the first Eid-ul-Fitr prayer service.
The initial Eid prayers began at 7am on Monday.
Devotees gathered for the service from different parts of the capital around 6am, wearing pyjama pants and Punjabi kurtas, with skullcaps on their heads, and scented attar on their bodies. Children accompanied their parents and guardians.
Heavy security measures were in place around the Eid prayer service. Security archways were set up at each gate.
The mosque was filled with devotees before 7am. The first prayer service was led by Imam Hafez Mufti Maulana Muhibullahil Baki.
The devotees prayed to Allah for the forgiveness of all sins, the welfare of the country and the nation, and mercy for the oppressed Muslims of Palestine.
After the prayers began the traditional Eid Day embraces. Many people captured the memories of these moments on their phones.
Like every year, five Eid congregations will be held at Baitul Mukarram for Eid-ul-Fitr.
The mosque’s Senior Pesh Imam Hafez Maulana Mizanur Rahman will lead the second prayer service at 8am, Islamic Foundation Muhaddis Mufti Waliur Rahman Khan will lead the third at 9am, Islamic Foundation Translation and Compilation Department Editor Mushtaq Ahmed will lead the fourth at 10am.
The fifth and final will be led by Islamic Foundation Mufti Md Abdullah at 10:45am.
