A man has been shot dead and an 11-year-old girl injured when unidentified assailants opened fire in Chattogram city.
The incident took place in the Raufabad Shaheed Minar lane under Bayezid Bostami Police Station on Thursday night, police said.
The dead was identified only as Raju, 24, a resident of Raozan Upazila.
Police said he had been staying at his sister’s home in Raufabad for the past three days, though details of his presence there remain unclear.
Deputy Commissioner (North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police Amirul Islam told bdnews24.com that attackers targeted Raju before fleeing the scene.
“We recovered a bullet-riddled body,” he said.
He added that Raju had no known residence in the locality, suggesting possible links to disputes in his native home.
“We are investigating why he was suddenly targeted,” he said.
Meanwhile, the child, Reshmi Akter, was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital with a gunshot wound to her eye, said Sub-Inspector Nur-e-Alam Ashik of the hospital’s police outpost.
Quoting family members, he said the child was on her way to a shop from her home when gunmen opened fire, striking her during the attack.
