Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury says the government will continue relief efforts until rehabilitation of flood-affected people is complete.

After distributing relief in Chattogram’s Patenga on Friday, he said more than 700,000 people across the district remain stranded.

According to him, 75,000 families have received rice, lentils and dry food, and 40,000 families have been provided with cooked meals.

He said rehabilitation work would begin after the emergency relief phase, including the distribution of seeds, fertiliser and other essentials needed to help affected people rebuild their livelihoods.

“Diseases often spread after floods, so medicine stocks are ready, and the government is fully prepared to respond if any outbreak occurs,” the minister added.
