An investigation report into the killing of former Teknaf councillor and Upazila Jubo League president Ekramul Haque during an alleged anti-drug operation in Cox’s Bazar has been submitted.
The report named 11 people as suspects, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
On Sunday, prosecutors placed it before International Crimes Tribunal-2, headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury.
The incident occurred on the night of May 26, 2018, when the 46-year-old was killed in what was described as a gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Noakhaliya Para of Sadar Union along the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive.
In a statement issued after the killing, the RAB identified his father as "Mozahar Mia alias Abdus Sattar", instead of Abdus Sattar, and listed his address as Nazirpara instead of Kayukkhali Para in Teknaf Municipality.
It also described Ekramul as a "listed top drug trafficker" and "top yaba godfather" under the home ministry and the Department of Narcotics Control, claiming he faced multiple narcotics cases at Teknaf Police Station.
At the time, Ekramul's brother Ehsanul Haque Bahadur said several men in plain clothes, claiming to represent an intelligence agency, came to their home around 9:30pm on a Saturday and asked Ekramul to accompany them, saying they wanted to discuss a land sale.
He said the family later learnt late that night that Ekramul had been killed in what authorities described as a gunfight.
Bahadur also rejected RAB's account, saying their father had no other name and that there was no area called Nazirpara within the municipality.
He said Nazirpara is located in Teknaf Sadar Union, not where the family lived.
