A Narayanganj city Awami League leader, who was in prison custody in connection with a case filed over the anti-discrimination student movement, has died.
Narayanganj Jail Superintendent Forkan Wahid said the 55-year-old leader, identified as Humayun Kabir, passed away at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Tuesday.
Forkan said Humayun was first taken to Narayanganj General Hospital after falling sick on Monday night and was later shifted to the NICVD on doctors’ advice.
“He was suffering from heart disease. He was hospitalised immediately after he reported chest pain,” said Forkan.
Humayun has been in Narayanganj jail since he was arrested on Dec 18, 2024, more than four months after the fall of the Awami League government.
