At least eight workers have been injured as a boiler exploded at an Akij Cement plant in Bandar Upazila of Narayanganj.

They have been taken to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Kadamrosul, said Bandar Police chief Golam Muktar Ashraf.

He said, “The explosion took place in the boiler room of the factory around 5:15pm.

“The intensity of the explosion also broke the glass walls of some rooms in the factory building.”

Eight workers in the boiler room suffered minor burns and glass injuries but are out of danger, he said.

They were first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to the burn institute.

Around 10pm, Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the burn institute, said: “Eight burn victims from the Akij Cement factory were brought to the emergency department. The extent of their burns has not yet been determined.”
