A shrine in Thakurgaon town has reportedly been vandalised under the cover of darkness, prompting tensions among local residents and devotees.

The shrine, known as the Hazrat Baba Shah Satyapir Mazar, was damaged at some point on Friday night in the Satyapir Bridge area of the town, according to Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station chief (OC) Monir Hossain.

The damage was discovered on Saturday morning when local residents and devotees visited the site. As news spread, large numbers of followers gathered at the shrine.

Devotees condemned the vandalism and called for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.
