A stone hurled at the Dhaka-bound Jayantika Express near Tongi Railway Station in Gazipur has left two passengers injured.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm on Tuesday, said Police Constable Abdur Rouf, who was responsible for security on the train.
The injured were identified as Fahim Mia, 14, and Liton Mia, 50.
Fahim's elder brother Arman Mia said, “We were in the middle of the carriage after boarding the train from Ashuganj.
“When we got near Tongi station, a stone was thrown from outside through the train window. It hit a passenger on the head and then hit Fahim in the neck.”
Liton said, “I boarded the train from Mukundapur station. The stone first hit my head, then a boy’s neck.
“I will have to go to Dhaka and get a CT scan. Awareness and publicity should be increased to prevent stone pelting on trains.”
Rouf said, “When the train left, everyone was asked to keep the windows closed. But the passengers keep them open, citing the heat. The two injured will be given first aid.”
