New Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani has shared details of his preparations for conducting the swearing-in ceremony for the incoming cabinet.
Speaking to reporters after being appointed cabinet secretary on Monday, Ghani discussed various aspects of the preparations.
He formally assumed the role of cabinet secretary earlier on Monday.
Sharing the preparations for the new cabinet, including the swearing-in ceremony, he said: “Once we receive the list, we arrange the necessary support. A minister needs a car, a bodyguard, and accommodation. These arrangements have to be made.”
“Security arrangements must be ensured, their offices have to be alerted, and appointments must be made for the officials and staff who will work with them. All these matters need to be handled.”
Asked whether preparations were in place, he said: “Of course, the government is always prepared. The government does not fail.”
Asked for his reaction over being chosen as the cabinet secretary, Ghani said: “At a critical juncture for the country, a huge responsibility has fallen on my frail shoulders. I will try to bear this responsibility and work as I have done in the past, to the best of my ability.”
On preparations for the swearing-in of the new cabinet, he said: “I have yet to take charge formally. As you know, newly elected MPs will take their oath in two phases in the morning. First, they will be sworn in as members of parliament, and then there will be another oath for the reform council. The cabinet will take its oath in the afternoon. The Cabinet Division is working around the clock to arrange it.”
In response to a question on when the cabinet list would be available, Ghani said: “That depends on the incoming prime minister and his decision. We are making preparations. When the names come, everyone will know.”
“The size of the cabinet will be decided by him as well. We follow a standard process, and preparations are being made accordingly.”
