A Marma couple have died after being struck by lightning while bathing in a stream in Khagrachhari’s Mahalchhari Upazila.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Saturday in the Punarbashan area of Maischhari Union, local karbari Nayan Kumar Tripura said.
The dead are Uchingmong Marma, 55, and his wife Hlapai Marma, 52, residents of the area.
Relatives said thunderstorms and rain had been lashing the area since evening. The couple went to bathe in the stream after finishing work when lightning struck them, killing both at the scene.
Local residents later recovered their bodies.
Attempts to reach Upazila administrator (UNO) Md Erfanul Haque Chowdhury were unsuccessful.
Chakma Man Dies in Sadar
Separately, a Chakma man was killed by lightning in Sadar Upazila the same evening, police said.
The deceased, Mangal Shova Chakma, 28, was a resident of Noapara in Bhaibonchhara Union.
Khagrachhari Sadar Police chief Md Kai Kislu said Shova Chakma was working in his yard around 7:30pm when lightning struck, killing him on the spot.
