Police in Narail, disguised as different professionals, have arrested a fugitive who had long evaded capture.

According to Kalia Police Station chief Idris Ali, the arrest was made around 8pm on Wednesday in Jokarchar village of Kalia Upazila.

The arrestee, Aroz Ali Sheikh, 50, is a native of the same village. Police describe him as the leader of an inter-district robbery gang.

Police said Aroz faces nine criminal cases, including five at Kalia Police Station, two at Narail Sadar Police Station, one at Dighalia Police Station in Khulna, and one at Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.

The cases involve robbery, violence, illegal weapons, and theft.

Idris said Aroz had been on the run for a long time and had repeatedly managed to evade arrest.

Acting on a tip-off about his whereabouts, police officers surrounded his home from Wednesday morning.

To avoid raising suspicion, they disguised themselves as farmers, van drivers, hawkers, and grocery shopkeepers while keeping the area under surveillance.

Around 8pm, police raided a small makeshift shack located in a garden next to his house and successfully arrested him.

The officer added that, after completing formalities, the suspect would be produced before the court on Thursday.
