2-year-old drowns as widespread flooding grips Satkania

The toddler wandered out of the house unnoticed by family members before falling into floodwater, locals say

A 2-year-old boy has drowned in floodwater at Satkania’s Rupkania in Chattogram.

The child, Ismail Hossain, was the son of local resident Zainal Abedin. The incident occurred in South Rupkania of Ward No. 8.

On Friday, Satkania Police chief Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Khan said, “The child drowned around 7pm.”

Locals said the toddler had left home unnoticed by family members before falling into floodwater.

Residents reportedly found Ismail later and rushed him to Satkania Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.

Earlier in the evening, Upazila administrator (UNO) Khondkar Mahmudul Hasan said every village across the Upazila's 17 unions and the municipality had been inundated.

The situation worsened after the embankment on the Dolu River collapsed, sending floodwater into the municipality and Rampur.

Two other children also drowned in Banshkhali Upazila earlier on Friday.
