The family of Sheikh Mahfuzur Rahman Emon, a Dutch citizen of Bangladeshi origin, say they have not heard from him for several weeks after he took a vacation to Kenya, reports local news outlet Tuko.

Emon travelled to Kenya on Apr 11, but his family have not heard from him since Apr 24. They are gravely concerned about his safety and whereabouts, Tuko says.

A relative told Lemiso Media that Emon had been sharing updates about the trip before communication was suddenly cut off.

A social media post before his disappearance shows him travelling to the coastal city of Mombasa by rail.

The family took to Facebook to share an emotional appeal for news of him. They say they are trying to trace him by reaching out to the High Commission of Bangladesh in Kenya as well as Dutch diplomatic authorities. But there has yet to be a breakthrough.

Kenya is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from across the world to visit its safari parks, beaches, and cultural heritage sites.

“However, disappearances involving foreign nationals can become difficult to investigate when there is limited information about their movements or accommodation,” Tuko says.

Emon’s family is urging anyone with any clue to his whereabouts to reach out to them.
