Rain, nor’westers likely in eight divisions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast nor’wester storms and rain on Wednesday and Thursday in some parts of eight divisions across the country.

Scattered hailstorms are also expected in some parts of the country on Wednesday.

According to Meteorologist Kazi Jebunnesa, the regular seasonal weather cycle has led to the possibility of pre-monsoon rain and nor’wester thunderstorms.

She told bdnews24.com that rain and thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at a few places in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hail in isolated places. In some places Nor’wester storms are likely to occur.

Day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may fall slightly across the country on Wednesday. The meteorologist also said that day temperatures may fall by 1-2°C and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country on Thursday.

In its regular bulletin, the BMD said a trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. The seasonal low lies over South Bay of Bengal.

Over the last 24 hours, the country's highest temperature was recorded in Rajshahi at 35.2°C, while the lowest was 17.5°C in Rajshahi, Ishwardi and Kumarkhali.

The Met Office said the highest rainfall during this period was 49mm, recorded in Netrokona.

Meanwhile, it also forecast rain and thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes at a few places over the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions on Friday.

For Saturday, the BMD expects the same weather at one or two places over the Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. The weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Day temperatures may rise slightly and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country on Friday, while day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged and night temperatures may rise slightly over the country on Saturday.
