Police have said the brutal murder of four members of the same family in Naogaon’s Niamatpur Upazila was a pre-planned massacre orchestrated by close relatives over a land dispute.

On Wednesday, Superintendent Mohammad Tariqul detailed the alleged motive, drawing from evidence surfaced during the initial questioning of three suspects.

The detainees are Shahidul Islam, 30, husband of the victim Habibur Rahman’s sister Shirin Akter; his son Shahin Hossain; and Sabuj Rana, 20, the son of another of Habibur’s sisters.

All three suspects reside in Bahadurpur village.

On Tuesday, police recovered the throatslit bodies of four members of a family, including two children, from the same village.

The victims were identified as Habibur Rahman, 32, son of Nomir Hossain, his wife Sultana Popy, 25, their son Parvez Rahman, 9, and daughter Sadia Rahman, 3.
