Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is making special arrangements to facilitate attendance at the funeral prayers of former prime minister and BNP chief Khaleda Zia.

DMTCL Director (administration) AKM Khairul Alam disclosed the decision on Tuesday.

Speaking to bdnews24.com, he said additional special metro services will operate on Wednesday alongside the regular timetable to ensure passenger convenience.

Explaining the arrangements, Khairul said train headways will be reduced depending on crowd pressure, allowing services to run at shorter intervals.

“There is no need to add new trains. We will reduce the time gap between existing services,” he added.

Asked whether any steps are being taken to ease pressure at stations, he said there is likely to be a sharp rise in passengers purchasing single-journey tickets.

“For that, we are increasing the number of ticket sellers, particularly computer operators.”

“Additional officers and staff will also be deployed at every station to assist passengers with ticket purchases,” he added.
