Diesel price kept unchanged to 'reduce pressure' on public: Amit

Diesel accounts for approximately 66 percent of the total fuel oil consumption, he says

Despite the rise in fuel oil prices in the international market due to the West Asia crisis, the government has kept the price of diesel unchanged to reduce pressure on the public purse, according to State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit.

He said that diesel accounts for approximately 66 percent of the total fuel oil consumption in Bangladesh.

“The government has to provide the highest subsidy for this. But despite that, it remains untouched so that the people are not affected in any way,” Amit said while speaking at the Secretariat on Monday.

The government has increased the prices of octane, petrol, and kerosene by Tk 5 per litre for the month of June.

According to the revised rates, the price per litre is Tk 135 for kerosene, Tk 145 for octane, and Tk 140 for petrol.

The price of diesel, however, has been kept at Tk 115 per litre.
