A mild cold wave, the first of the season, is sweeping across several districts including Jashore, Chuadanga, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj and Nilphamari, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana said on Friday that the ongoing cold spell is expected to last for around 24 hours.
“The mild cold wave blowing over Jashore, Chuadanga, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj and Nilphamari districts may continue until Saturday morning,” she said.
According to data released by the BMD, the lowest temperature recorded in the country in the past 24 hours was 9 degrees Celsius in Jashore.
Chuadanga recorded a minimum temperature of 9.6 degrees Celsius, while the mercury dropped to 10 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi's Baghabari and Nilphamari's Dimla.
Meanwhile, the highest temperature was recorded in Teknaf at 29 degrees Celsius.
In its 120-hour forecast issued on Friday morning, the BMD said the weather across the country may remain dry, interspersed with partly cloudy skies from Friday to Tuesday.
From midnight on Friday to Saturday morning, moderate to dense fog may form in some places in river basin areas, while light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere in the country.
The Met Office warned that dense fog could temporarily disrupt air traffic, inland waterways and road communications.
Night and day temperatures may rise slightly on Friday, though the foggy conditions are expected to maintain a cold feeling in many parts of the country.
From Saturday to Tuesday, night and day temperatures across the country may remain nearly unchanged, the forecast said.
Foggy conditions may continue from midnight to morning during this period.
