NCP leader dies in Chattogram road crash

Faiyaz Tazrian was a passenger on a motorcycle that rammed into the back of a broken-down covered van on a flyover

A National Citizen Party (NCP) leader has been killed in a road accident in Chattogram.

The accident occurred on the Muradpur-Lalkhan Bazar Flyover’s GEC section.

The deceased has been identified as Faiyaz Tazrian, a member of the Chattogram metropolitan unit of the party.

A covered van had broken down on the GEC section of the flyover at night, said Chawkbazar Police chief Nur Hossain Mamun.

A motorcycle travelling towards Lalkhan Bazar rammed into the parked covered van from behind, he said.

Police rescued Faiyaz when the incident was reported and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Ridwan Hridoy, the office secretary of the Chattogram metropolitan unit of the NCP, said the road was slick at night due to the persistent rain and the flyover was dark due to a power outage.

The accident occurred as the motorcycle rider could not see where he was going, Hridoy said.
