Couple arrested allegedly with 22,000 Yaba pills on bus in Jamalpur

The couple already face two previous drug cases, with a third one filed

A couple allegedly carrying 22,000 Yaba pills on them have been arrested in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.

Police made the arrest on Friday morning, said Jamalpur Additional Superintendent (ASP) Sohel Mahmud.

The detainees have been identified as Abdul Matin, 47, and his wife Shahida Begum, 35.

Speaking at a press briefing, Sohel said the couple were held after police carried out a search on a bus arriving in Jamalpur from Cox’s Bazar.

A subsequent search of their bags led to the recovery of 22,000 Yaba pills. The bus used for transporting the drugs was also seized.

The couple already face two previous narcotics cases, and authorities are now investigating whether others are involved in their ring.

Another case under the Narcotics Control Act has been filed with Sadar Police Station, and the pair have been sent to jail through court.
