National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has allegedly been attacked in Jhenaidah, with eggs hurled at him.
In a Facebook post, he said the incident took place outside the Old Collectorate Mosque in Jhenaidah around 2pm on Friday, blaming Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal.
Patwary said Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal activists attacked him in the presence of police after he left the mosque following Jummah prayers.
“First, eggs, bricks and stones were thrown, followed by an attack with hockey sticks. Several people were injured, with three suffering head wounds,” he wrote.
“[The attackers] also targeted NCP Joint Member Secretary Tareq Reza and me, punching us indiscriminately,” the post read.
Patwary alleged that Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman, District Council Administrator MA Majid and “BNP activist” Rashed Khan are behind the attack.
“We are currently at the local police station preparing to file a case. Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal and the BNP are preparing to attack us again outside the police station,” he concluded.
NCP leaders and activists staged a protest in Jhenaidah after the incident, demanding the resignation of the home minister and the law minister.
They also demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the “attack”.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police chief Asaduzzaman said the situation is currently under control.
Additional police members have been deployed at important places in the city, he added.
