“The court has also given the CMP’s counterterrorism unit 20 days to submit a report after completing the investigation of the case.”

The 63 foreign nationals were produced in court on Tuesday. The remand hearing was held in their presence.

Last Thursday, police raided a seven-story building in the Krishnachura residential area of Khulshi Thana and arrested 63 foregin nationals, including 20 women from China, Pakistan, Laos, Nepal and Vietnam. According to the police, they were setting up a global “online fraud” ring.

A case has been filed against them at Khulshi Police Station under the Cyber Security Act. The case is being investigated by the city police's counter terrorism unit.

Police say the owner of the building is an expatriate. They rented the building a month and a half ago. A person named Mohsin, with whom the Chinese citizens have ties, rented the building to the foreign nationals.

Several police personnel involved in the investigation and operations of the case said that they have preliminary information that the gang opened various sites in the name of online marketing to commit “fraud” such as “honey traps”.

They said the foreigners would first engage in fraud by taking orders for various products through online shopping sites, delivering low-quality products and embezzling money without delivering the products. They were also involved in hacking various types of apps and websites, for which they installed different types of devices in the building.

Among the arrested foreigners, 36 are from Laos, 21 from Pakistan, five from China and one each from Nepal and Vietnam.
