Police have recovered the floating bodies of two unidentified people from the Atrai River in Dinajpur's Chirirbandar Upazila.

The bodies were retrieved around 10:30am on Monday beside the Lakshmitola Bridge in Viail Union of the Upazila, said Chirirbandar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Ahsan Habib.

Inspector Ahsan Habib said locals were unable to recognise or identify the bodies. Officials from the CID’s forensic department visited the scene to help determine their identities.

The bodies, believed to be of two people aged about 28, were sent to the Dinajpur Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations shortly after midday.

Considering the circumstances, police assume the bodies may have floated in from another area. Efforts are under way to establish their identities, the police officer added.
