Chattogram University Vice Chancellor Abu Taher has submitted his resignation.
He submitted an appeal to be relieved of his duties as the vice chancellor on Sunday, acting registrar KM Nur Ahmad confirmed.
The VC is appointed directly by the president, Nur Ahmed said. Abu Taher submitted his resignation but the decision regarding it is not yet known.
In addition to Nur, some officials from the proctorial body and different hall provosts have resigned from their duties at different times, said acting registrar Nur Ahmad.
On Aug 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister following a student-led mass movement. The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which led the mass uprising, have been demanding the resignations of different government officials, vice chancellors of different universities and others holding important posts.
On Wednesday, the protesters set an ultimatum of 24 hours for the resignations of CU VC Abu Taher, hall provosts and proctorial body officials. Later, they extended the deadline to 12pm on Friday. As they did not resign, the protesters locked the VC's residence and the proctor office.
On Mar 19, Dr Md Abu Taher, a professor at the Department of Management at CU was appointed the 19th vice chancellor.
Prof Abu Taher has also served as acting chairman of the Jiban Bima Corporation, treasurer at the Bangladesh Open University, and a member at the University Grant Commission (UGC).
