The 3-year-old boy abducted by a battery-powered rickshaw driver has been rescued from Gainbandha.

CID Special Branch Superintendent of Police Badrul Alam Molla said on Thursday that the child has been rescued unharmed.

A battery-powered rickshaw driver abducted Hisan Rahman in Dhaka’s Mugda.

His mother Sumaiya Akhter Mili said she briefly left Hisan in the rickshaw while she got off to buy water.

While she was paying, she looked back and saw the rickshaw had left with the child.

Mili has filed a kidnapping case with Mugda Police.

A physiotherapist by profession, she returned to Bangladesh from Switzerland last year with her son. Relatives said the child’s father is an expatriate in Switzerland.

Mugda Police chief Shariful Islam said the family lives in Sabujbagh.

Mili went to Mugda Hospital to see a doctor and hired an autorickshaw from outside the hospital around 1pm.

She said, “I had stepped out of the autorickshaw to get water. I tried to pick [Hisan] up, but he wouldn’t get down.

“The driver even said, ‘The child doesn’t want to get down, you go pay the bill.’ When I returned, I looked back, and the rickshaw and my child were gone.

“It all happened in just a few seconds. I ran immediately, asking everyone, but he had completely disappeared.”
