Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has called for continued efforts to strengthen the friendship between Bangladesh and India, describing people-to-people ties as the “true beating heart” of the two countries’ enduring relationship.
Speaking at an event marking India’s 80th Independence Day at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Saturday morning, Trivedi urged the two countries to work together towards shared prosperity.
“Let us also continue to nurture the exceptional bonds of friendship between India and Bangladesh, working hand in hand toward shared prosperity,” he said.
Reflecting on the foundations of the relationship, the high commissioner said the two countries were bound by a shared history of the freedom struggle and had built their ties on mutual respect and partnership.
“With the history of freedom struggle our bond is deeply entwined. On this solid bedrock of shared history, mutual respect, and partnership continues to flourish,” Trivedi said.
He said Bangladesh and India were advancing their partnership across vital sectors, ranging from trade and connectivity to security and healthcare.
Trivedi also highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections, saying they were rooted in shared aspirations and mutual goodwill.
“We recognise that it is the people-to-people connection, rooted in shared aspiration and mutual goodwill. That remains the true beating heart of this enduring friendship,” he said.
Looking ahead, the envoy called for a renewed commitment to India’s continued development, unity and prosperity.
“As we look at the future, let us reaffirm our commitment towards India’s continued progress, unity, and prosperity,” he said.
The high commissioner’s remarks came as the Indian High Commission hosted the Independence Day programme in Dhaka, bringing the focus on the historical ties between the two neighbouring countries and their ongoing partnership across several sectors.
Trivedi said the relationship should continue to develop around the aspirations of the people of both countries, while maintaining the mutual respect and goodwill that underpin their friendship.
