Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the national budget for 2026-27 fiscal year will include measures aimed at restoring public confidence in the banking sector.

He said the budget will provide policy directions for curbing inflation, generating employment, boosting investment, and ensuring the welfare of disenfranchised members of society.

The minister spoke to bdnews24.com over the government's key priorities on Wednesday, on the eve of the official announcement of the budget for the fiscal year 2026-27.

Speaking from his chamber during a parliamentary recess, he said: "There is no need to be restless... please wait.

"I cannot disclose details at this moment. However, I can assure you that we will present a good budget.”

He said the welfare of all classes of people will be featured in this budget.

“From students, workers, blacksmiths, and potters to marginal people -- no one will be left out."

Emphasising the government's intent to focus on marginalised communities, the minister said: "The country's marginal population did not receive due attention in the past.

"We want to change this. Tarique Rahman's government has formulated this budget keeping the welfare of every socio-economic class and profession in mind."

Amir Khosru, also the planning minister, is scheduled to present the national budget in parliament at 3pm on Thursday.

The budget will outline strategies to navigate different global challenges, including the economic fallout triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, he said.
