The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has announced that it will take special security measures across the country on Wednesday for July Mass Uprising Day.

In a media statement on Tuesday, RAB said: "Various events and programmes will be held across the country, including Dhaka, to mark the day. After reviewing all types of risks, RAB has strengthened security by coordinating with other law-enforcing agencies, intelligence agencies, and local administrations to ensure that no extremist groups, banned organisations, or nefarious anti-state and anti-government groups can create any kind of unpleasant situation."

Meanwhile, RAB forces are working to implement all kinds of law-and-order directives issued regarding security of the event, the statement said.

RAB says it is taking the following preparations to shore up security:

•    Each battalion has reviewed security threats and drawn up its own plan to ensure safety.

•    Intelligence activities have been stepped up, with area-based sources gathering advance information.

•    Security has been tightened at venues, roads and march routes since the night of Aug 4, covering event sites and July memorials.

•    RAB will operate under its own leadership while coordinating with local administrations and other agencies within their jurisdictions, with plainclothes surveillance increased along routes leading to venues.

•    Additional monitoring and preventive measures have been taken to guard against sabotage by suspicious individuals or banned organisations.

•    Plainclothes and uniformed personnel have maintained strict watch over venues and memorials in every district since a week before the day.

•    Cyber patrolling has been ramped up to curb rumours and propaganda spreading on social media.

•    RAB remains committed to ensuring public safety, identifying and preventing crime, and bringing offenders to justice during the occasion.
